Common Ingestion Scenarios
Magnet ingestions are often accidental and may occur from:
- Young children finding loose or missing magnets
- Older children and teens playing with magnets in their mouths or nose and imitating piercings

Storage & Inventory
- Be aware of dropped or separated magnets
- When not in use, locate all magnets and count them individually
- Store all magnets in a child-safe container
- Maintain an accurate inventory to ensure none are missing
Medical Emergency Information
If Ingestion is Suspected:
- Seek immediate medical attention or contact poison control center immediately
- X-rays or prompt surgical removal may be required
- Do not wait for symptoms to appear - by then it may be too late for medical intervention
Important: Symptoms May Be Delayed
Symptoms of magnet ingestion are often non-specific (abdominal pain, fever, etc.) and can take from hours to weeks to appear. By then, the damage can be severe.
Untreated ingestions may cause: intestinal blockage, perforation, bleeding, infection, and death.

- Keep away from pets - Animals can also be at risk of ingestion
- Keep away from pacemakers - Strong magnets can interfere with medical devices
- Pregnant women should consult a physician before using magnets
